Horse Show - Dressage Show at PLP
July 14, 2018
Week-end of July 13-15 There will be a Dressage Show at PLP. For those who’ve never shot moving targets, this is the ideal one to try. It’s a little slower and the ‘patterns’ that are being ridden are clearly defined, so it’s possible to predict where and when the horse/rider pair will do specific things - allowing the photographer to be ready in advance to capture that perfect moment. I’ll work with you to figure out the best camera settings and, hopefully, the weather will cooperate so we can shoot at the outside ring where the light is better. That said, be prepared to shoot in the indoor arena if necessary where the light is (to put it politely) ghastly. -

Horse Show - Reining competition
August 18, 2018
Week-end of August 17-19. This is a Reining competition. Like Dressage, the patterns are defined based on the level of competition, but for the exciting parts of the patterns (spins and sliding stops) competitors are moving fast so you have to be ready. Again your longest lens will be needed. Also, this competition will be inside the arena (with the lousy light). You’ll need a fast shutter speed to freeze the action but you’ll also have to allow for the poor light. No on-camera flash can be used for two reasons: a) spooks the horses; and b) where people get ‘red eye’ from direct flash, horses get ‘dead eye’ (makes their eyes look white - truly ugly). -

PAST EVENT Course Xtreme Race Memramcook

As part of their 2018 winter carnival, the municipality of Memramcook with the expertise of Bruno Richard will present the only ice cross downhill race in Atlantic Canada this winter.
Invented in 2001, Ice Cross Downhill is a fast, physical and tactical sport. The athletes must race down 300 metres in length downhill ice track dotted with jumps, obstacles and rollers, but the rules are very simple: first skater to the bottom wins.
The Course Xtreme Race Memramcook will take place during two evenings behind the former Memramcook Institute. The individual qualifiers will be held on Friday, February 2, while the main event, featuring waves of four skaters, will be presented on Saturday, February 3.
